The Australian Riesling Challenge

A new chapter for Australian Riesling is taking shape.

For generations, the Clare Valley has proudly championed Riesling and played a defining role in building the reputation of the variety in Australia and around the world.

Now, we’re looking to the future.

The Clare Valley Wine & Grape Association is excited to announce plans for The Australian Riesling Challenge – a new national competition dedicated exclusively to Australian Riesling, proposed to launch in the Clare Valley in 2027.

But our ambition is bigger than creating another wine competition.

We want to create a national platform that brings the Australian Riesling community together, celebrates excellence from every Riesling-producing region, strengthens the category and gets more people talking about one of Australia’s great wine styles.

There is plenty of work still to come – but we’re excited about what this could become.
